Joy Ellis is a London-based jazz pianist, singer and composer who has toured all over the UK performing her original music at various venues and festivals including Manchester, Cheltenham and London Jazz Festivals and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.

In March last year she released her third album with long-time collaborators Henrik Jensen on double bass and drummer Adam Osmianski. Recorded at the end of May 2021 her new material has a relaxed and minimalist vibe in keeping with the album’s title, ‘Peaceful Place’.

Moving through the pandemic Joy felt there were no words she could sing to capture the grief and sense of loss that she and other people she knew had experienced. Therefore she decided to compose an album with no vocals at all using her other instrument and first love, the piano.

The album received some fantastic reviews including Editor’s choice in UK Jazzwise magazine and has been really well-received:

‘Stylish maturity of composition and playing.’ Jazzwise

‘The best recording she’s made to date’. All About Jazz

‘Evocative, completely immersive, and unapologetically beautiful.’ UK Vibe

‘A shimmering triumph’. Jazz FM

‘Peaceful Place variously reminds of Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau and Bill Evans. Its unbroken atmosphere is testament to the trio’s chemistry, their musicianship never overwhelming the material’.  MOJO Magazine

Now the Trio is ready to play it to a live audience!
